Brock’s Gap Brewery
This is a new ground-up construction project with extensive site work and utilities for Brock’s Gap Brewing Company. The building is a two-story structure with a brewery, bar, and mezzanine upstairs, and a corporate office and event space on the lower level. The building sits on a split-level, heavily reinforced concrete slab and foundation wall system, with upper levels receiving slabs on metal decking.
The structure is composed of conventional structural steel columns, beams, joists, and decking. Exterior walls are structural wood studs integrated into the steel design, with a combination of Tru-Exterior siding and natural slate siding. The roofing is pre-finished standing seam. The upper level has walk-around elevated patio seating areas covered by cantilevered roofing.
Extensive details resembling the nostalgic Brock’s Gap railroad that was cut through the terrain in the mid to late 1800s can be seen throughout the project. There is a large brew room back of house where the brews are created and stored. An intricate system of air, gas, water, and beer piping can be seen exposed throughout the brewing, storage, and patron areas. A unique underground insulated piping system runs from the brew room to the standalone outdoor bar, which is used for special events. The main building also features a large stage and speakers for live bands.
The project site required extensive grading and rock excavation, as expected per the geotechnical report provided during preconstruction. A unique wooden boardwalk system was constructed to accommodate patrons coming from the adjacent Hoover Metropolitan Complex. Artificial turf was installed for gathering, gaming, and activities just outside the main building’s band stage. The multi-tiered parking lot accommodates parking for over 60 patrons and employees.
Total construction time was 12 months and 2 weeks, as the owner decided to double the brew production and storage area while steel was being erected.
