NHS Jacksonville Health & Rehabilitation Jacksonville, AL
This is a multi-phased, complex project involving extensive renovations to existing patient and administrative wings, as well as new ground-up construction of a patient wing and a new rehab structure with site work and utilities. The project was phased so that the new patient wing was constructed simultaneously with the new rehab building.
Extensive site work at the facility entrance had to be performed first to make room for the new rehab gym structure and covered entry. During the ground-up construction of these two additions, interior renovations to existing patient rooms and administrative areas were completed in phases of four-room blocks until all rooms were finished. Extensive daily communication between facility administration and project subcontractors was paramount to the project’s success.
The new structures feature monolithic slabs, exterior and interior wood studs, wood roof trusses, and shingle roofing. The interiors include gypsum and acoustical ceilings and clouds, graphic wallpaper, hard tile in bathroom areas, vinyl plank in bedrooms, and decorative carpet tiles throughout the common areas. Decorative steel entry doors and windows, along with extensive millwork, complete the finishes.
Throughout the construction process, this skilled nursing facility maintained 167 patient beds. From groundbreaking to completion of the additions and renovations—and having the rehab gym ready for the first patients to occupy—the timeline was 10 months and 2 weeks.
